Most of my work is now based on my experiences while out walking in the Scottish Highlands. These walks into the mountains are not just a relaxing pastime, they are the source of inspiration for the paintings I do. I’m a lucky man …two of my three great passions happen also to be my work!
We have managed to get out into the hills on a fairly regular basis over the last 10 years and have enjoyed seeing the Scottish landscape under all conditions …misty autumn days, clear cold winter conditions, the beautiful bright spring colours….and the very varied weather that so often makes up summer.
Being visually impaired I see very little detail and experience the landscape in terms of pattern. I see the changing light and shade, the bright colours, the larger features and of course experience the ever changing conditions from minute to minute, hour to hour and season to season. My work tries to capture a little of what it’s like to walk in this wild and stunning landscape.
Winner of the Jolomo Award 2009 for Scottish landscape painting, I now work professionally from my studio on Irvine Harbour side in Ayrshire.
